"Captain, Doctor Westphalen's been kidnapped by the Regulator!" Lucas Wolenczak announced as he came bounding onto the bridge of the seaQuest.
Captain Nathan Bridger looked over at the sixteen year old computer genius. "Lucas, you're not supposed to be on the bridge right now. And why are you dressed like that?"
Lucas looked down at his blue jacket covering a black and green wetsuit. It was a tacky outfit and everyone on the bridge knew it. "That's not important. Didn't you hear me? I said, Doctor Westphalen has been kidnapped!"
Bridger paused. "Doctor Westphalen? What about her?"
The boy sighed, rolling his eyes. "Leslie Ferina -- you know, the Regulator -- kidnapped Doctor Westphalen and knocked out Chief Crocker as he tried to stop him."
"Oh no, Kristin. But we were supposed to have dinner together tonight. We have to stop him!" Bridger turned to his XO, Jonathan Ford, just as a beep came from the engineering station.
"Captain, there's an unauthorized launch leaving the docking bay," Lieutenant Commander Katie Hitchcock announced.
"Is it the Regulator?" Bridger asked.
"I don't know," she shook her head. "It's one of our launches, but it could be him."
Just then Chief Crocker came loping onto the bridge, holding a towel to his balding head. "I'm sorry, Cap. I tried to stop him, but he was too fast for me and knocked me out."
"It's all right, Chief," Bridger patted his friend on the back. "But maybe next time you'll listen to me when I tell you to stick to your diet."
"Aw, but Cap," Crocker whined.
"No buts, Chief," Bridger admonished, then turned back to the task at hand. "Mr. O'Neill, get that launch on the horn now."
"Aye, sir," Tim O'Neill chirped, then paused with a frown. "Um, sir, I have an incoming message for you -- it's from the launch."
"Well put it up, Lieutenant," Bridger replied.
At the front of the bridge, the screen changed from a view of the sea to the inside of a launch. In the middle of the screen was a familiar face -- "Zellar," Bridger hissed.
"I see you remember me, Captain," Rubin Zellar smiled evilly. "Wonderful. That means you know that I'm not bluffing."
"You won't get whatever it is you're after, Zellar," Jonathan Ford said.
"Oh, but I will," Zellar replied. "Because if you don't fire your missiles on Pearl Harbor immediately, then the pretty Doctor Westphalen will die."
"Kristin," Bridger whispered. "Commander, arm the missiles," he ordered, pulling out the key he wore on a chain around his neck.
"But Captain," Ford objected.
"Do it, Commander," Bridger glared at his XO.
On the screen, Zellar chuckled. "Very good, Captain." But before he could finish the thought, he crumpled to the floor as a metal rod came down on his head. As Zellar fell to the floor, everyone saw Lucas standing behind him, the metal rod in his hand. Behind him. Doctor Westphalen was kneeling next to the prone body of the Regulator.
"Lucas!" Bridger looked startled. "What are you doing on the launch? You were just here."
"When you weren't looking, I snuck out on the Stinger and came over here to save Doctor Westphalen --"
* * *
"Woah, woah, woah, you can't do that, stupid," Evie glared at her brother.
"Why not?" Joey demanded. "Lucas always saves the day. That's why he's on the show."
"No, he's there so they can get girls to watch the show, dorkus. Nathan is supposed to save Kristin, and then they kiss and everyone lives happily ever after."
Joey scrunched up his nose in disgust. "Ewwww! Where do you get these stupid ideas of love?"
"They're not stupid, they're romantic," Evie insisted.
"Kids! Dinner!" came their mother's voice from the top of the stairs.
"Coming mom!" they yelled in unison, tossing down their seaQuest toys and running for the stairs.
The End
Author's note: I know there wasn't actually a Westphalen action figure, but hey, it's my story, my universe. And I'm not kidding about Lucas' outfit.
